Avenues of Service
Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club
Four Avenues of Service
Based on the Object of Rotary, the Four Avenues of Service are Rotary's
philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is
based:

* Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the
effective functioning of the club.
Some of the Club Service activities hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club include an
annual Club Mystery Trip, Progressive Dinners, Sweatheart's Luncheon, Margarita Madness
Nights, Cigar & Martini Nights, the President's Party, Demotion Party and any other social
events that can be created to provide an opportunity for club members, family members,
co-workers and friends to socialize, fellowship and build relationships. Club Activities equal
fun!

* Community Service covers the projects and activities the club
undertakes to improve life in its community.
The Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club is well-known for their pancake breakfasts; members of
the club can be found serving breakfast at the city's 4th of July Parade, the SCV Chamber of
Commerce Home & Business EXPO, the City of Santa Clarita Marathon, the American
Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and many other charity events in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Besides being known for their pancake breakfasts, Rotarians are also know for being
financial contributors to many local charities and organizations. Each year the SCV Rotary
Club awards over $10,000 to local charities and organizations through their Newhall
Community Fund. Some of the community service projects done over the last few years
include the donation of a Rotary Garden with gazebo to the City of Santa Clarita, purchase of
playground equipment for special needs students, Adopt-A-Highway Program (freeway clean
up), and the building of a retaining wall for a local non-profit.

* International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary's
humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world
understanding and peace.
Over the last few years the SCV Rotary Club has continued to financially assist Rotary
International in the battle to eradicate polio around the world, they have also partnered with
Rotary International to purchase wheelchairs for those in other countries. SCV Rotarians and
local community members came together this past year (2006/2007) to purchase and install
a water filtration plant for the Cook Islands.

* Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through
their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
Some of the Vocational Service activities hosted by the Santa Clarita Valley Rotary Club
include the annual Job Shadowing Day; a day in which local high school students are paired
with Rotarians to "shadow" them for a day at their workplace. The club also hosts an annual
"Four Way Test" Essay Contest for eighth grade students; students write about an individual
in their lives who they feel best exemplifies the Rotary Four Way Test. Winners of the essay
contest, along with the individual they wrote about, are invited to attend a Rotary luncheon to
present their essay. The winning writers receive a $50.00 avings bond to be used for their
future education. A third Vocational activity involves Rotarians presenting "Craft Talks", a time
for Rotarians to share who they are and what they do for a vocation with fellow members of
the club.
